He has entered eternal rest to be with his Heavenly Father. E.D. was born in Elkton, Va. On Oct. 10, 1919. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Miller Jarman and Dolly Durrette Jarman; one brother Milletus Miller Jarman; and one sister, Addie Lee Gibbs. Elijah Durrette Jarman, better known as "E.D." died peacefully at his home in Ruckersville Nov 23, 2005. He has entered eternal rest to be with his Heavenly Father. E.D. was born in Elkton, Va. On Oct. 10, 1919. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Miller Jarman and Dolly Durrette Jarman; one brother Milletus Miller Jarman; and one sister, Addie Lee Gibbs. He is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Rosemary Behney Jarman; and one sister, Elizabeth Jarman Farley. E.D. is also survived by five step children; 16 step grandchildren; three nieces; one nephew; and numerous great nieces and nephews. E.D. attended Va. Tech from 1939 to 1941. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army in Japan- Army of Occupation. E.D. served as Greene County's treasurer for 27 years. He was an active member of the Greene County Community. He was a member of Swift Run Baptist Church for 68 years. During these years he served as the Church Treasurer, Deacon and Trustee. Since 2002, he was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. E.D. was a member of the Piedmont Stella Masonic Lodge since 1951. He served his lodge as Worshipful Master for three years and secretary of the lodge for 34 years. He was a member of the Greene County American Legion Post #128 since 1948, serving as Commander for three years and Adjutant for 40 years. He was currently serving as Membership Chairman. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge #199. He was a member of the Greene County Cloverleafs Square Dance Club, serving as President in 1994 and 1995. This is where he met his beautiful bride and love of his life. E.D. was known by his many friends as "Storyteller Extraordinaire." His stories of family and earlier days gone by were known by many. E.D. was a farmer for 40 years. He will be buried in the family cemetery on the old Locust Grove Farm. Family night will be at Ryan Funeral Home 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Spring Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dan Carlton officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Greene County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 302, Stanardsville, Va. 22973 or to the Spring Hill Baptist Church, 2620 Frays Mill Road, Ruckersville, Va. 22968. Ryan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
