Wildman, west of Absarokee. Besides his daughter, Mrs. Wildman, he is survived by a son living in Minneapolis. A few years ago the deceased came to Absarokee and filed on a homestead, where he lived until the time of his death. Interment was made Tuesday in the Rosebud cemetery. OBTAINED AT THE IA GEN SOC, DES MOINES, POLK CO, IA. PAGES 130-132 ISAAC H ATKINSON.... the son of Eli and Jestine (Moore) Atkinson,.... His father(C ATKINSON NOTE-Elijah ATKINSON) was a native of "Clark Co, OH". Per re-enlistment papers, Pulaski Co, TN Jan 1864, NARA, copies in possession of C ATKINSON, he gives "Monroe Co,OH" as place of birth. Others state he was born in Green, Adams Co, OH, but Green is a town in "Summit Co, OH". This gives 4 different counties then in Ohio that he could have been born in, plus his parents were married in "Highland Co, OH". He married to Jestina Moore, daughter of Jos.(Joseph?) and Hannah Moore of Tazewell Co, WVA, on 1 Aug 1853 in Knox Co, IL. He moved to Missouri for a year, returned to Knox Co, IL and then moved to Frontier Co, NE and then onto Story Co, IA by 1860 with his parents. He enlisted in the Civil War Sept 1861, ROSTER AND RECORD OF IOWA SOLDIERS IN THE WAR OF THE REBELLION, 1861-1866, VOL IV, 1-9TH REGIMENTS-CAVALRY Fifth Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Cavalry Page 869 ATKINSON, ELIJAH (Veteran) Age 31. Residence Omaha, NE, nativity, OH. Enlisted Sept 21, 1861..Mustered Sept 21, 1861, Promoted Fourth Corporal Jan 1, 1863; Promoted Third Corporal April 15, 1863; Promoted Second Corporal May 9, 1863; Promoted First Corporal Sept 12, 1863. He Re-enlisted and re-mustered Jan 1, 1864 at Nashville, TN. Taken prisoner July 21, 1864. Chattahoochee River, GA. Transferred to Company B, Fifth Veteran Cavalry Consolidated, Aug 8, 1864. At the end of the Civil War, he received a General Discharge. Eli never settled after the Civil War. He was always moving. There is a letter at the State Historical Building to the Adjutant General of the State of Iowa from friends in Frontier Co, NE inquiring about him as they had not heard from him after the Civil War and wanted to get into contact with him.
