Grand and Great Grandchildren served as casket bearers. Elinor Martell was born October 26, 1927, at Elgin, youngest of twelve children born to Jacob and Christina Guthmiller Martell. Grand and Great Grandchildren served as casket bearers. Elinor Martell was born October 26, 1927, at Elgin, youngest of twelve children born to Jacob and Christina Guthmiller Martell. They lived 2.5 miles south of Elgin until Jacob passed away and Christina married Fred Schaible. They lived one mile north of Elgin until 1941 when they retired into Elgin. Elinor graduated from Elgin High School. Elinor married May 28, 1944, at Elgin to Art Alt. Elinor worked as a nursing aide in the Elgin Hospital and as a teller for Farmers State Bank. Elinor and Art operated a hardware store until their granddaughter and husband purchased the business in June 1990. After Art passed away, Elinor continued to live in Elgin then on November 25, 1994, she married in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Emmett Hoks. They spent their summers in Elgin and their winters in Wisconsin and Arizona. Following the death of Emmett, Elinor returned to Elgin and entered Dakota Hills. She passed away January 09, 2017, in Jacobson Memorial Hospital, Elgin. Elinor was a charter member of the Elgin Lioness Club and was active in community and church activities. She was an excellent seamstress, had a very creative mind and loved to garden, play cards and spending time in the cabin. Survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law and their extended families. Preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a son, Art Jr., a granddaughter, Heather Denboer; two brothers and nine sisters.
