Description	:	Our mother, Elisabeth (nee Bartel) Toews, was born to Henry and Elizabeth Bartel in Greenland, Manitoba, on September 12, 1891. She went to be with the Lord on December 26, 1975, having passed her eighty-fourth birthday. Before she was three years old she lost her mother in death; however, God soon provided her with another mother. She grew to womanhood in Manitoba, where most of her teen age years were spent in working for others. In January of 1910, she married our father, John W. Toews. Read More	Our mother, Elisabeth (nee Bartel) Toews, was born to Henry and Elizabeth Bartel in Greenland, Manitoba, on September 12, 1891. She went to be with the Lord on December 26, 1975, having passed her eighty-fourth birthday. Before she was three years old she lost her mother in death; however, God soon provided her with another mother. She grew to womanhood in Manitoba, where most of her teen age years were spent in working for others. In January of 1910, she married our father, John W. Toews. They came west to Alberta, where they pioneered together on their homestead. They lived and worked there until 1955, when they moved to Linden. The little house on the corner was their home in the evening years of their lives until the summer of 1968. At that time they became residents at the Linden Nursing Home, where they continued to live useful lives. Four years ago, Mother had a severe illness which left her handicapped. The staff at the Home gave Mother and Dad the most superb of Christian care, for which we most sincerely thank them. Mother and Dad enjoyed life together for over sixty-five years. Soon after their marriage, our parents committed their lives to God. They were baptized and received membership in the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Mother was sensitive to the needs of those people she came in contact with, and she gave herself freely by being a friend "in need" to many. She has left behind six children: Helen Jones of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia; Anna and Peter Friesen, Edna and Levi Reimer, both of Crooked Creek, Alberta; Bill and Margaret Toews of Mt. Lehman, British Columbia; Elsie and Walter DeVeer of Grand Prairie, Alberta; Terence and Vera Toews of Linden, Alberta; thirty-five grandchildren and thirty-nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: John and Elizabeth Bartell, Bernhard and Agnes Bartel; one sister, Katherine and Aaron Reimer; as well as one brother-in-law, Isaac and Florence Toews; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Bartel and Elizabeth Bartel, and many friends. Predeceasing her were her husband, seven months ago; her parents; three infant children; one small grandchild; two sisters, and two brothers. Funeral services were held December 29, 1975, at Linden, Interment was made in the local cemetery.
