Description	:	John Warkentin Toews, first saw life's light on January seventh, eighteen hundred and eighty in the village of Gruenfeld, Manitoba, in which vicinity he also grew to manhood. In nineteen hundred and four he came to what is now known as the Linden area, where he took up a homestead on which he lived until we moved to Linden in the fall of nineteen hundred and fifty-six. Read More	John Warkentin Toews, first saw life's light on January seventh, eighteen hundred and eighty in the village of Gruenfeld, Manitoba, in which vicinity he also grew to manhood. In nineteen hundred and four he came to what is now known as the Linden area, where he took up a homestead on which he lived until we moved to Linden in the fall of nineteen hundred and fifty-six. In nineteen hundred and sixty-eight we moved into the Linden Nursing Home where the best of Christian care was given us until he went home on May tenth, nineteen hundred and seventy-five, in his ninety-sixth year. In January, nineteen hundred and ten he found his companion in me, Elisabeth Bartel, and we shared together more than sixty-five years of life. Soon after our marriage the Lord spoke to us in a real definite way. We responded in faith and accepted His salvation for ourselves. We received baptism and membership in the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in May of nineteen hundred and ten, in which he was kept by the grace of God. A day or two before his death he said, "I am going to heaven." This has been his real anticipation for many years. He leaves to follow after, his wife, six children: Helen of Quallicum Beach, B.C.; Anna and Peter Friesen, Edna and Levi Reimer, both of Crooked Creek, Alberta; Bill and Margaret Toews of Mt. Leham, B.C.; Elsie and Walter deVere of Grande Prairie, Alberta; Terence and Vera Toews of Linden; thirty-two grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; one brother, Isaac and Florence Toews of Mt. Lehman, B.C. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Peter P. W. Toews, his sister, Maria Wiebe, his brother, Cornelius Toews; seven brothers and sisters in infancy; three infant children and one small grandson. Funeral services were held May 13, 1975. Min. Cornie Wiebe spoke on Job 5:26 and Rev. 14:13. Interment was made in the Linden Cemetery.
