HERMAN SCHMIDT SUDDENLY SUMMONED The community was grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. Herman Schmidt which occurred at her home in Blue Hill on Monday afternoon at about one o'clock. Mrs. Schmidt has been in failing health for about eighteen months, but she had not been bedfast preceding her death and her passing was therefore unexpected. She had, with her husband and daughter, Mr. Minnie Schultz, been at the table for the noon-day meal, and had retired into another room, where she was found a short time later with life extinct. Elsie Miller Schmidt, wife of Herman Schmidt, was born in Olendorf by Sundeburg in the Province of Hanover in Germany on the 19th day of April 1867. She came to America with her parents in 1879 and after a stay of about one year in Chicago they came to Bennett, Nebraska in 1880. On August 6, 1880, she was married to Herman Schmidt of Hickman, Nebraska, and to this union were born four children, two boys, Louis and Frank and two girls, Minnie and Bertha. In 1888 they came to Blue Hill, where they have made their home since. Mrs. Schmidt was a consistent member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, and a devoted and active member of the Ladies' Society in that church. With her passing the community and her church mourn the loss of one whose peaceful and friendly disposition will long be remembered. She was a patient sufferer during her long illness and having endured in faith until the end, the Heavenly Father permitted her to close her eyes forever on the sorrows of this world to rejoice forever hereafter. She had reached the age of 71 years, 9 months and 16 days, and is survived by her husband, one sister, Mrs. Wm. Nolte of Bennett, Nebraska; and by her four children, Mrs. Minnie Schultz, Lewis Schmidt, Mrs. Bertha Graham and Frank Schmidt, also by eleven grandchildren and one great grantson (sic). The funeral services will be conducted this afternoon by Rev. Herman Goede from the home at two o'clock and from St. Paul's Lutheran church at 2:30. Burial will be in the Blue Hill cemetery. *Source unknown
