Description	:	Eliza Ann Bradford and John J Stobaugh married on April 3, 1865, in Van Buren County Arkansas. John's service in the Union Army was likely a bitter issue with the Bradford family, especially given the high price the Bradford family paid fighting for the South during the war. John's service in the Union Army was likely a bitter issue with the Bradford family, especially given the high price the Bradford family paid fighting for the South during the war. John and his first cousin, James Stobaugh, enlisted in the 3rd Union Cavalry in Lewisburg, Arkansas, on September 23, 1863, just ten days after the fall of the capital at Little Rock. Over forty percent of the enlistees of the 3rd were men who had formerly fought for the Confederacy in Arkansas. The regiment was mustered into federal service on February 10, 1864. The unit saw action throughout northwest Arkansas and fought skirmish after skirmish against Witt's Cavalry. Interestingly, Eliza's brother, Zilman O Bradford, was one of the soldiers in Witt's Cavalry and no doubt saw action against his future brother-in-law. At the time of the marriage, the Bradford family had lost five of its seven son's to the war. George N, James Monroe, Howard H, Zilman O, and William Bradford were all dead. Samuel T Bradford was the only son to survive the conflict. Moses Lynch Bradford never took part in the struggle. In addition to the Bradford men, their sister Lucinda Bradford Orr, lost her husband and two sons during the struggle while fighting for the 19th Alabama. Lucinda eventually moved to Arkansas and lived out her final years with her brother Moses in Cadron Township which was then part of Conway County, Arkansas. In an 1872 letter to his niece, Eliza Jane Joslin Dowell, Moses noted that Lucinda's health was failing and she then died the following year.
