For Eliza Metts Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist-church In Grand River Wednesday afternoon for Eliza J. Metts who died Monday. Services were in charge of the Reverend Weber of Grand River, Burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery. The deceased was 88 years old. Lamoree funeral service was in charge. Pallbearers were Frank and Doyle McConnell, Russell Glazebrook, John and Herschel Jones and Walter Swain. Pearl Foland and Bonnie Evans sang accompanied by Mable Hewlett. 01 Dec 1949 The Osceola Sentinel Newspaper [The Digital Archives of the Osceola Public Library] OBITUARY Eliza Jane Metts Eliza Jane (Baker) Metts was born in Dubuque, Iowa, Sept. 3, 1861 and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Boise McConnell (with whom she had made her home for the last eight years) on Nov. 21, 1948, at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 18 days.. She was married to Francis Marion Metts on Sept. 10, 1879, and to this union eleven children were born. Her husband and six children preceded her in death, four in infancy, also Della Mae and Joseph. She is survived by five children, Mrs. Ethel Jones of Ames, Mrs. Rachel McConnell of Murray, Mrs. Vera Glazebrook of Osceola, Mrs. Sylvia Reeves of Glenrock, Wyoming and Mrs. Lola Swaim of Benton City, Missouri; also three brothers, John of California, Bill of Kellerton, Iowa, and Dick of Grand River, Iowa. She has thirty-five grandchildren, sixty-one great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Metts was a good mother of a sympathetic nature and always ready to help where needed and she exemplified a truly Christian spirit.
