Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Richardson Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. C. C. Thompson. Burial will be in Miller's Cemetery. MULLINS - Mrs. Eliza Nicholson, 83, of Mullins, died Friday evening in a Mullins hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Nicholson was the widow of the late Rembert Nicholson and was born in Marion [now Dillon] County, a daughter of the late John L. and Nancy Hayes Meggs. She was a member of Miller's United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was the first woman to serve as treasurer in Marion County and was reputed to be the first woman to hold a county treasurer post in the state. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. L. S. Wolfe of Decatur, Ga.; two sisters, Miss Jennie Meggs of Mullins and Mrs. Clara Allen of Marion; and one brother, Frank Meggs of Miami, Fla. Published in the Morning News, March 12, 1972 Note: The daughter mentioned in Eliza's obituary is actually her niece, Monica Alice Meggs Wolfe, daughter of her brother, John Stoll Meggs.
