Richison John Simpson Richison Elzena Richison Jarrell ---------- RICHISON FAMILY HISTORY: James Richison was born in Worcester County, Maryland in 1840. His wife, Eliza Margaret Patton, was born in County Cork, Ireland two years earlier. Soon after the end of the Civil War, the Richisons purchased a farm 8 miles west of Shelbyville, Shelby County, Missouri from John and Sarah Starrett. As of 1975, the farm had been owned by the Richison family and their descendants since 1867. James Richison broke the prairie sod with oxen, built a log house and moved in on 16 Mar 1868. There, they raised 5 children. Around 1894, the log house was replaced. The next owners of the farm were the Richison's daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, Christian Glahn. ---------- Obituary excerpts: Eliza Mariah Richison Schwada, daughter of James and Eliza Patton Richison was born at the old Richison home place east of Hagers Grove Sept. 23, 1870 and passed to her eternal home Thursday, Dec. 9, 1937, [see note below] thus being 67 years of age. She united with Hagers Grove Christian church...in 1892. Her marriage to John Schwada...and six children were born to this union as follows: Mrs. Esther Ruby Beckley, John Leon Schwada, James Monloe Schwada, Mrs. Eliza Elezena Rathjen, Matthew Schwada and Mrs. Clara Alice Runyon, all living and residents of Shelby county, also 11 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Nannie Glahn, two brothers, Matthew Richison and John Richison, all of the vicinity. One sister Mrs. Elzena Jarrell, deceased. Funeral services were conducted from Hagers Grove church. Burial was in Clarence cemetery. (Clarence, Missouri newspaper; Dec 1937) Note: Birth date given as 24 Sep 1871 and date of death given as 10 Dec 1937 on Eliza's Missouri death certificate #44482. This information conflicts slightly with the obituary.
