Description	:	John was 1 of 9 children born to John Schwada, Sr. and Clara Mary Neaman. His parents were married in 1859 in Rising Sun, Indiana and moved to Shelby County, Missouri in 1865. John taught at Rawson School for a number of years. He had been a student there in his youth. His younger brother, Leslie, was 1 of his students at Rawson. Leslie often told his family that he respected his brother as a teacher and was always careful to have his lessons prepared to "escape the whip." His parents were married in 1859 in Rising Sun, Indiana and moved to Shelby County, Missouri in 1865. John taught at Rawson School for a number of years. He had been a student there in his youth. His younger brother, Leslie, was 1 of his students at Rawson. Leslie often told his family that he respected his brother as a teacher and was always careful to have his lessons prepared to "escape the whip." As Leslie liked to remind his children, teachers in those days liberally "applied the switch" with full approval of the parents. John married Eliza "Mariah" Richison on 06 Mar 1895. He returned to farming as a career, and they were the parents of 6 children. John died at his home from metastasized pancreatic cancer at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 6 days. He was survived by his wife, Mariah, and was buried on 19 Sep 1928. John's wife, Mariah, passed away in 1937. Children: 3 sons, 3 daughters. Schwada, a prominent and highly respected citizen of the Hagers Grove neighborhood, died at his home Monday morning (Sept. 17, 1928) at six o'clock after an illness of six months duration. In the early spring he underwent an operation at a St. Louis hospital but never regained his health. John W. Schwada, the son of John and Clara Schwada, who came from Germany in an early day, was born March 11, 1869, being 59 years of age at the time of his death. He was born near Hagers Grove and has always lived in the vicinity of his birth. He taught school several years and has since engaged in farming. He was married March 6, 1895 to Miss Mariah Richison, who with their three sons and three daughters, Monloe, Mrs. Alfred Beckley, of Shelbyville, Matthew, Mrs. Clara Runyon, Elzena and Leon at home, are left to mourn his passing. Besides the immediate family there are several brothers and sisters, namely - Henry, Mrs. Flora Mitts, Mrs. Mary Long, Frank, Mrs. Ed Roy, Leslie and Willie of Oklahoma. He was a member of the Ebenezer Evangelical church and was admired by his friends for his many sterling qualities. Funeral services were conducted at the Hagers Grove church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. J.L. Shoemaker of LaPlata, and interment was made in Maplewood cemetery of this city.
