Sleggle, west of town, Thursday morning, Nov. 17, 1900, from the effects of la grippe, Mrs. Eliza Sleggle, aged 89 years and 26 days. Miss Eliza Sigafoos was born in the state of Pennsylvania Oct. 22, 1811. She was united in marriage to George Sleggle, Oct. 28, 1830, and by this union was born eleven children, eight of whom preceded their mother to the spirit world. One son lost his life in the service of his country, being aboard the ill fated Sultonia when it was blown up. Mrs. Sleggle was converted and united with the M.E. church when fifteen years of age and during the three-quarters of a century that has followed she led a life consistent with her religious belief. She was faithful in her church relations and was always present at the services until sickness and the infirmities of advancing years compelled her to be absent, and she often expressed regret at her inability during the last decade to attend church and enjoy the means of grace she loved so much and enjoyed so well. She was a loving wife and mother devoting her life to the comfort and happiness of her family, and in the large circle of acquaintance that she formed, there was none but loved and esteemed her. Her's was a long life and one well worthy of emulation. Her last illness was not of long duration and she realized all that was said to her until 3 a.m. when she became unconscious and sank rapidly until 6 a.m. when the spirit took its flight to join the ransomed throne on the other shore. The funeral service was held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. Dr. Busby after which the remains were laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. cemetery beside those of her husband
