Description	:	Elizabeth A. "Bette" Conroy, 79, of York, formerly of Oconto, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at York. Bette was born Dec. 29, 1931, in Lomax to A. Laurence and Lauretta (Neville) Conroy. Survivors are: brothers, James Conroy and his wife, Grace, of Lincoln and John Conroy and his wife, Gladys, of Oconto; sisters-in-law, Betty Conroy of Oconto and Alberta Conroy of Lincoln; and a host of relatives and friends. Laurence and Lauretta (Neville) Conroy. Survivors are: brothers, James Conroy and his wife, Grace, of Lincoln and John Conroy and his wife, Gladys, of Oconto; sisters-in-law, Betty Conroy of Oconto and Alberta Conroy of Lincoln; and a host of relatives and friends. Bette grew up on the family farm in Custer County and graduated from Oconto High School. Bette received higher education by committing to a religious congregation in Iowa. Later, she attended the University of Nebraska, where she earned her bachelor's degree and teaching certificate. Upon graduation, she taught school at Gresham for a short time before moving to Long Beach, Calif., to pursue her lifelong career in teaching. In 1989, Bette retired and returned to Nebraska to come back home. She lived in York with her sister, Rose, until Rose's death in 2004. Bette stayed in York as it had become her home.
