Description	:	Elizabeth A. Hersperger was a daughter of Catherine (née Remsberg) and Heinrich "Henry" Hersperger, born 1796 in Frederick County, Maryland, probably in or near Jefferson. Her paternal grandfather, Bernard Hersperger was, by some accounts, one of the founders of Jefferson, originally called New Town. Elizabeth "Hersbarger" and James Wiles were married on 7 February 1815 in Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, Frederick County. Her paternal grandfather, Bernard Hersperger was, by some accounts, one of the founders of Jefferson, originally called New Town. Elizabeth "Hersbarger" and James Wiles were married on 7 February 1815 in Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, Frederick County. James died on 17 September 1827 at the age of 37, leaving his pregnant wife and their five young children. Their sixth child was born in late 1827. A Frederick County, Maryland, Equity Court abstract for George Remsburg vs. James Wiles estate specifies that Wiles died intestate, leaving a widow, Elizabeth, and six minor children: William, Thomas, Catherine, James, Greenberry, Henry. When this case was settled in 1828, Elizabeth Wiles had months-old Henry, 2-year-old Greenberry, and 3-year-old James, junior, and three children a bit older. It appears that Greenberry Wiles was placed in the care of his father's brother, Thomas Wiles, who later migrated from Maryland to Muskingum County, Ohio. (It appears also that Elizabeth Wiles visited with her son Greenberry in Muskingun County in 1850.) In 1860, Elizabeth Wiles was living in the household of her son Henry in Jefferson, Frederick County. She died in 1864 in Jefferson.
