Description	:	Heinrich Hersperger, son of Elizabeth (née Nebiger) and Bernard Hersperger, was born 16 November 1760 in Sissach, Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland, and immigrated to the American colonies with his parents, five sisters, and a half-sister during April 1772. The family eventually settled in Frederick County, Maryland. Henry "Hershberger" and Catherine "Ramsborgh" were married on 9 May 1782 in Frederick County. (Ferdinand was deemed incapable of managing his own affairs; placed in the care of John B.) Henry Hersperger owned a 20-acre wood lot; two additional tracts that were re-surveyed and combined into the 147-acre tract "The Title is Good"; and five lots in the town of Jefferson (then called New Town). "BERNARD HERSHBERGER [...] was a native of Germany and brought his wife and family with him when he came to America. [...] they brought money with them, for it is stated that Bernard, and his little son Henry, had money in their belts. Bernard Hershberger bought 160 acres of land in what is now Frederick County, and on a part of this land the town of Jefferson was laid out by him, and called New Town. [...] "Bernard Hershberger gave one acre of land to be used as a cemetery, and after deeding portion to each of his daughters, he left remainder of his land to his son, Henry. "Henry Hershberger [...] was a child of only five years when he came with his parents to America. He spent his life in improving and beautifying the land which he inherited from his father."
