Description	:	Eliza Stephenson Voyles Eliza Stephenson, daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Grimes Stephenson, was born July 16, 1839 in Vernon township, Washington Co., Ind., and died April 30, 1925, aged 85 years, 8 months and 11 days. Her father and mother moved from Henry Co., KY about the year 1817 to Vernon Tp., Washington Co., Ind. They built a long cabin and proceeded to make a home. Read More	Eliza Stephenson Voyles Eliza Stephenson, daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Grimes Stephenson, was born July 16, 1839 in Vernon township, Washington Co., Ind., and died April 30, 1925, aged 85 years, 8 months and 11 days. Twelve children were born to them as follows; Nancy (Collier). Simpson, Dellia (Maudlin) Cynthia (Walton), Nelson, Mary Ann (Pavey), Emaline (who died in infancy). Catherine Jane (Maudlin) Elmira (Chastain), Benjamin (who died in infancy), John and Eliza (Voyles). She was the youngest of this large family and the last to pass to the Great Beyond. She was married to David Lafayette Voyles Nov. 24, 1864. To this union two children were born, Clara Jane, the wife of William Lewis born Sept 8, 1865 and Newton Lafayette born March 7, 1867. The husband and father died Oct. 22, 1871, leaving her to care for the children and manage the farm. She lived her whole life in Vernon Tp.. Her highest aim and greatest pleasure was in serving her family and in rendering aid and assistance to her neighbors whenever needed. Her life is an open book beautifully written, telling of her pure and noble Christian character-of love for the Church and Sunday School, of her great affection for loved ones, and of her kind sympathy for those in trouble and distress. She was a member of the Christian Church. She made the good confession at the Old Mt. Tabor church and was baptized years ago by Eld. Thos. Martin. She was always at the church services when possible until her ill health prevented her attendance during the last year or two of her life. Her constant reference more than any other subject was to the church and its associations. She lived the last few years with the family of one of her grandchildren. Mrs. Sam Trinkle. About one year ago she had the misfortune to fall and break her hip from which injury she never recovered. Mr. and Mrs. Trinkle and other members of the family were ever ready to give her all the care that loving hands and kind hearts could do. Sacrifices were forgotten in their desire to soften and brighten grandmother's declining days. It is remarkable that the members of this pioneer home were noted for their physical vitality and their mental vigor, and nearly all of them lived to a ripe old age. The Lord adds to those who follow in his ways. She leaves to mourn her departure, two children, five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Her life work is completed and we are taught to believe that the spirit of another loved one has passed up higher to that promised rest prepared for those who love the Lord and keep His commandments. Funeral services were conducted by Eld. Frank Martin at Mt. Tabor Saturday morning at 10:30 after which the remains were gently laid to rest in the nearby cemetery by the side of her husband.
