The Placer Herald (Rocklin, California) Sat, Jun 25, 1887 A Golden Wedding. On the 19th, Daniel Hereford and his wife, Elizabeth, celebrated their golden wedding at their home, known as the Big Meadows, situated six miles to the northeast of Lincoln. Mr. Hereford and family crossed the plains from the State of Missouri to California in the Fall of 1859, and have resided in Western Placer ever since. In many respects this is a remarkable family. Mr. Hereford and wife were married at the ages of 17 and 15 respectively, and each was the twelfth child of their parents, and they are the parents of twelve children. Up to the present time they have had born to them sixty-five lineal descendants, fifty-two of whom are still living, forty-nine being residents of this State. Mrs. Hereford having been in quite poor health for some months past, much anxiety was felt lest she should not live to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of her wedding day, but as the time drew near her health improved, and the many descendants of this venerable couple scattered through the State, determined, so far as possible, to all gather once more around the old family fireside while father and mother still lived to bless them. Accordingly they came from Monterey, Colusa, and other counties, and a right jolly meeting it was. Some were well advanced in years and having large families, others just married; then gentle maidens, and bashful boys in their teens, little children and bright-eyed babies, but not a crying one among them all. No one not present can imagine what a happy day these people spent at the picturesque old farm among the hills, the home of their ancestors. And such a dinner as they set down to; it could not be beaten the world over. Many of their neighbors and friends were present and all enjoyed themselves very much. The young people danced in the evening, while the older ones chatted. Here your correspondent took his departure, wishing that this ancient couple might live to celebrate their diamond wedding.
