Kibbee 1850-1920. The Brooklyn (IA) Chronicle; Feb. 15, 1934 MRS. JAMES KIBBEE PASSES AWAY HERE FRIDAY Mrs. James Kibbee died Friday morning at her home in South Brooklyn. Elizabeth Byers, daughter of David and Mary Byers, was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1848 and passed away Friday, Feb. 9. She was one of a family of nine children, all of whom preceded her in death. On Oct. 30, 1870, she was united in marriage to James M. Kibbee who passed away in July, 1920. To them were born eight children, one dying in infancy. Francis, the oldest son, died in October 1922. Those surviving her are: Flora Porter of McIntosh, S.D.; Mrs. C.M. Newton of Mt. Vernon, S.D.; Mrs. C.W. Weatherly of Des Moines and Robert, Elmer and Mrs. Cora Smith of Brooklyn. Many years ago she united with the Presbyterian church and remained a member here until her death. ( missing ) home with her granddaughter Mrs. W.J. Wittenburg, who did everything for her that loving hands could do. Their children have been first in her thoughts during her stay in their home. It was ever a pleasure instead of a duty for her to help in the care of the family. She was always interested in the welfare of her immediate family as she was in all her friends. Even in this last illness of one week's duration, she has appreciated everything done for her. Three years ago she had the misfortune to break a hip from which she was indisposed for a year, but gradually gained her strength and was able to walk and enjoy life to the fullest until last week, when she was taken ill with pneumonia. She leaves 23 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren besides many relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers. Interment was in the family lot in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. NOTE: Fourth paragraph and some words missing and a crease made one sentence mostly unreadable. --MH
