Description	:	The following information has been compiled from family notes of Ethel Elizabeth Beer Long Hoyt from an interview that she had with her mother, John Miles Beer and Robert David Beer recollections that were written and sent family members, all children of William and Annie Hanson Beer as well as obituaries when found and research using census, registration records for both WWI and WWll, newspaper articles, Wisconsin Historical Library and other documents. Elizabeth Callahan was born in Pennsylvania a full bloodied Irish girl per family notes. She married Jesse Beer (b.1823-d.Feb 1856) who was born in Helen Furnace, Clarion County, Pennsylvania per family notes. He provided for his family by working with the early furnaces for smelting iron. Currently we know for sure he died young at the age of 33 years. Family notes also having him dying of Typhoid fever. Jesse had one brother who drowned and William was named for him. Jesse and Elizabeth would have six children five boys and one girl, the girl Sarah F. (b.1849-d.unknown) died in infancy per family notes and one son Zacharia F. (b.1848-d.1856) died of Typhoid fever. That left Jesse Jr. born approx. 1854, William (b.6/5/1851-d. 9/5/1931), James (dates unknown) and Taylor (b.1844-d. 2/22/1863)Taylor served in the Union Army and joined them in 1861 in Wisconsin during the war between the states . Taylor was part of the 23 regiment infantry he entered as a private and died as a private. Per Wisconsin Historical library Taylor died of diarrhea (not measles as reported by family notes) and he died in Young's Point, Louisiana (not Kentucky as also reported by family).Place of burial is unknown at this time. After her husband Jesse’s death she remarried Richard Newton who was also a widower and had a family of his own as well. Richard and Elizabeth Callahan Newton are first found in Wiota, Lafayette, Wisconsin in the 1870 census. They have 4 children. Sarah born 1858 PA, they moved to Wisconsin around 1861 and then Emma is born 1863 WI, Isaac born 1865 WI and Richard born 1867 WI. It also looks like a son of Richard Newton's from a previous marriage, Thomas born 1842 in England is living with them. Richard dies between 1870-1880 census. In 1880 Elizabeth is still living in Wiota, Lafayette, Wisconsin with Sarah, Isaac and Richard. Emma married Ernest Lemuel Mann 28 Nov 1880 and she dies before the 1900 census and I believe she could be buried in the same cemetery as Elizabeth Callahan Beer Newton. Sarah married John Henry McAfee 5 Apr 1881 and they are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Popejoy. Richard moves to Minnesota and is buried there. Also in 1880 Elizabeth’s son James Beer who marries Maria Smith from Lafayette County, Wisconsin and is living with the family from her first marriage.
