Description	:	The following information has been compiled from family notes of Ethel Elizabeth Beer Long Hoyt from an interview that she had with her mother, John Miles Beer and Robert David Beer recollections that were written and sent family members, all children of William and Annie Hanson Beer as well as obituaries when found and research using census, registration records for both WWI and WWll, newspaper articles and other documents. Read More	The following information has been compiled from family notes of Ethel Elizabeth Beer Long Hoyt from an interview that she had with her mother, John Miles Beer and Robert David Beer recollections that were written and sent family members, all children of William and Annie Hanson Beer as well as obituaries when found and research using census, registration records for both WWI and WWll, newspaper articles and other documents. William Laver Beer son of Jesse Beer and Elizabeth Callahan Beer Newton was born in Helen Furnace, Pennsylvania. William’s father Jesse was also born in Helen Furnace, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. He provided for his family by working with the early furnaces for smelting iron. Currently we have nothing about his death other than he died young. Jesse had one brother who drowned and William was named for him. Jesse and Elizabeth would have six children five boys and one girl, the girl died in infancy and one son (name unknown at this time) died of Typhoid fever with his father Jesse. That left Jesse Jr., William, James and Taylor. Taylor served in the Union Army joining in 1861 from Wisconsin and was part of the 23rd Regiment Infantry in the Civil War all we know from family notes is he buried in Kentucky. More research will be needed on this. Their mother Elizabeth was a full blooded Irish girl per family notes. After her husbands death she remarried a Mr. Newton who was also a widower and had a family of his own as well. They moved to Wisconsin around 1861. We do not know what happened to Mr. Newton but Elizabeth lived to be a full life and is buried in Popejoy, Iowa. William Laver Beer married Annie Hanson Beer in Darlington, Lafayette County, Wisconsin on October 4, 1874. William spent most of his live supporting his family as a farmer. In 1889 they made their move to Franklin County, near Popejoy, Iowa. They would move to several farms around the Alden area after selling the Popejoy farm. They had their ten children over a span of 23 years with the first six being born in Wisconsin and the last four in Iowa they are as follows: William James Beer (b.07/31/1875-d.02/13/1929), Carl Hanson Beer (b.4/20/1877-d.12/11/1963), Thomas Isaac Beer(b.2/27/1880-d.11/29/1963), Ethel Elizabeth Beer Long Hoyt (b.8/22/1882-d.1/13/1953), Taylor Henry Beer(b.3/29/1885-d.12/13/1974), Clara Annie Beer Baskerville (b.07/08/1887-d.03/04/1958), Jesse Leroy Beer (b.01/19/1890-d.04/10/1978), Millicent Louelle Beer Darrah Smith (b.10/24/1892-d.11/00/1984) Robert David Beer (b.03/10/1895-d.05/04/1895), John Miles Beer (b.12/04/1898-08/14/1979). William proudly became a member of the Masons on February 14, 1874 in Wiota, Wisconsin. After moving to Alden he became a member of that lodge on July 13, 1894 and held the distinction at that time of being its only “fifty year Mason” since February 14, 1924. All of his sons (per his obituary) were Masons, and at least one daughter was a member of the Order of Easter Star. William died after a long illness kept dwindling his health away over the last two years of his life. At the time of his death his parents and all his siblings and one son William James had preceded him. His services were held at the Methodist Church in Alden at 2:00 p.m. on September 8, 1931.
