Boden was called to her reward early last Monday morning at the family home in Sterling. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran church with Rev. C. August Decker in charge. Elisabeth Ross was born on December 11, 1848 at Bagland in Ostfriedland, Germany. When only a few weeks old she was made a child of God by the sacrament of holy baptism and the thought of God's covenant, then made, was a source of much comfort to her in her last sickness. After receiving a thorough instruction in the Christian faith she made public confession and was confirmed by Rev. Meints, the pastor who had baptized her. On March 27, 1871 she was united in holy wedlock to William E. Boden and shared the joys and sorrows of life with him for more than 63 years. To this union six children, four sons and two daughters, were born, all of whom survive. The family came to America in 1886 and first lived near Sterling for a year. From here they went to Goodland, Kansas but after eight years again returned to Nebraska, where they lived near Crab Orchard for three years and then moved to their own farm northeast of Sterling. For the last 25 years they made their home in Sterling. The departed was a sincere Christian and a regular attendant at divine services. Because of the early Christian training and the daily devotions read in their home, she was well versed in her bible. During her last illness God's word and promises were her strength and comfort. For the blessed assurance of her faith she also partook of the Lord's supper at regular intervals. She looked forward to her end with confidence and often prayed that her deliverance would come soon. When on Monday morning, July 2, she peacefully passed away her age was 85 years, 6 months and 22 days. She is survived by her husband and the following six children: Eilert, Mrs. Fred Rust, Miss Etta, Fred, John, and George, all residing at Sterling with the exception of Mrs. Rust, who lives at Goodland, Kansas. There are 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a half-sister, Mrs. Henry Rathe, and two half-brothers, Ben Ross of Hebron and Dick Ross of Lincoln.
