Description	:	Gerd Ross was born in Ausfriesland, Germany, Feb. 27, 1856, and died at the home of his daughter near Adams, Nebraska, Feb. 13, 1934, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 13 days. At the age of 17 years he came to America, visiting his uncle in Petersburg, Illinois, for two years. Upon returning to Germany he settled in Hazel, Ausfriesland, where he married Johanna Busbaum. Read More	Gerd Ross was born in Ausfriesland, Germany, Feb. 27, 1856, and died at the home of his daughter near Adams, Nebraska, Feb. 13, 1934, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 13 days. At the age of 17 years he came to America, visiting his uncle in Petersburg, Illinois, for two years. Upon returning to Germany he settled in Hazel, Ausfriesland, where he married Johanna Busbaum. To this union seven children were born, five sons and two daughters. In 1893 he came with his family to America, settling on a farm near Sterling, Nebr., where he was a highly respected farmer for 24 years, until the death of his beloved wife. Stricken with grief he moved to Thayer county settling at Kiowa in 1911, where he resided until 1929. The past few years were spent with his children and his daughter, Mrs. Anna Mohrhoff, at Adams. He was baptized while a child and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his native home church, which church was over 200 years old. When moving to America he joined and attended the St. John's Lutheran Church at Sterling, where he held his membership until his untimely death, when he was almost instantly killed by being run over by an automobile. He is survived by six children: Mrs. Anna Mohrhoff, Adams, Nebraska, Mrs. Elizabeth Rulla, Boulder, Colorado, Fred Ross, Unadilla, Nebraska, Eilert Ross, Eagle Nebraska, George Ross, Hebron, Nebraska, and John Ross, Denver, Colorado; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Boden, and one half-sister [Mary Rathe], both of Sterling, Nebraska; two half-brothers, Richard [Dirk] Ross, of Lincoln, Nebr., and Ben Ross, of Hebron, Nebr.; twenty-three grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. One sister and one son preceded him in death. He was a loving father and faithful friend to all who knew him. He was laid to rest beside his wife in St. John's Lutheran cemetery at Sterling, Nebraska. ~ Our dear father has left us, His loving voice is stilled. A place is vacant in our home, That never can be filled.
