The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, July 18, 1935; pg. 1 ============= Elizabeth Catharine Willcockson was born to Stephen and Mary Willcockson, at Williamsville, Illinois, March 5, 1858, and died at Nelson, Nebraska, July 17, 1935, age 77 years 4 months and 12 days. September 11, 1878, she was united in marriage to John Wright Ely at Springfield, Ills. To this union were born ten children, three sons and seven daughters, all of whom are still living, except one daughter, Pearl who death occurred in 1917. In 1884 Mrs. Ely with her family moved from Illinois to Nebraska and located on a farm near Elmwood, Cass county (sic). Eight years later the family located on a farm two miles and a quarter southwest of Oak, Nebraska, where they lived for eighteen years. The family lived for a short while in Oak and then moved to Nelson, at which place Mrs. Ely was living with her two daughters, Ida F. and Mrs. Christie Kirkman, at the time of her death. Besides the daughter Pearl who was Mrs. R.D. Montgomery at the time of her death in 1917, Mrs. Ely was preceded in death by her husband, John W., May 24, 1929. Mrs. Ely with her husband joined the Christian church (sic) in Antioch, Illinois, in 1884. When the family moved to Nelson in 1911 she placed her membership in the Christian church (sic), where she was a member at the time of her death. In addition to twenty grand children, one great grand child, relatives and many friends, nine children live to mourn her death: Arthur F. of Grand Island, Nebr.; Mrs. Geo. Groffman and Harold C., Forks, Wash.; Mrs. W.I. Moore, Hastings, Nebr.; Mrs. V.D. Curry, Del Rio, Texas; Mrs. Ruby Allen and Roy J.W.,; Lincoln, Nebr.; Mrs. Christie Kirkman and Ida F., Nelson. In closing the obituary of Mrs. Ely let it be in the final words of the obituary of her mother who died in 1895: "Her sufferings are over; her race is won; the Master has said "servant they work is well done.'" Funeral services were held at the home in Nelson at nine o'clock on Sunday morning, July 21, 1935, conducted by Rev. C.R. Brooks of Ulysses, former pastor of the Christian church (sic) in Nelson. The body was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Nelson cemetery (sic). As in the case of her husband, six grandsons acted as pallbearers: Doran Kirkman, North Bend; Robert Kirkman, Wayne; Robert E. and David W.
