Read More	Dyersville Commercial Feb. 21, 1908 Mrs. John Schindler Passed Away at the Family Residence Last Friday. ~ Mrs. John Schindler passed away at the family home in East Dyersville Friday, after a brief illness at the age of seventy-three years. The cause of death was pneumonia. She suffered the attack several weeks ago and on account of her age, was unable to overcome the ravishes of the disease, and in spite of all that medical skill could do she gradually grew weaker, the dissolution coming as stated above. The maiden name of the deceased was Elizabeth Christoph, her parents being among the pioneers who settled in western Dubuque County during the frontier days. She was born in Bavaria, Germany in 1835. She came to America in 1844, with her parents and settled at New Vienna. Her marriage to Mr. John Schindler, who still survives her, took place at New Vienna in 1856. Following the marriage they came to Dyersville and settled on a farm north of town, where they resided until fourteen years ago, when they took up their residence in East Dyersville to live the retired life, and where Mrs. Schindler died. Surviving her besides her husband are eight children, John of Ionia, Minn., Valentine of Emerson, Nebraska, Anton of Aurora, Iowa, and Theodore and Henry of Dyersville, Theresia, now Mrs. Henry Meyer of Aurora, Ia., Mary, now Mrs. Clem Meyer and Elizabeth now Mrs. Mike Birner of Dyersville. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs.Theresia Lampmann of Boyd, Nebraska, and one brother, Chris Christoph of Texas. The funeral took place Monday morning from the family home to St. Francis church, where requiem mass was read by Very Rev. Theo Warnning. Her remains were laid to rest in St. Francis cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, many friends of the deceased from neighboring towns being present to pay their last tribute of respect. The pallbearers were Messrs. Frank Winkelhaus, John Pins, Frank Kunkel, Wm. Pins, Michael Wagner and Herman Handfelt. The death of Mrs. Schindler is the loss of another venerable pioneer lady to the community. She was a noble Woman, and her devotion to her home and children will ever live as an example of a life well spent. She was a life long member of the Catholic Church, of a true christian spirit, and was ever generous to the needy. The best testimony of her worth was shown by the host of friends who followed her earthly remains to their last resting place. We join in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones
