Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg with Pastor Shirley Will officiating. Elizabeth Cleopha was born April 21, 1913, in the Fredericksburg Township of rural Chickasaw County, IA, the daughter of Guy and Amelia (Niewoehner) Schoonover. Beth lived on the family farm southeast of Fredericksburg until she was 19. It was often joked about that she was her fathers "hired man" on the farm. She attended the Lincoln School District #9 country school. Beth was a 1931 graduate of Fredericksburg High School. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. In 1950, she joined the United Methodist Church, which she belonged to until the time of her death. On February 22, 1933, Beth was united in marriage to Paul Edgar in the Methodist parsonage in New Hampton. To this union, six children were born. The couple lived in the Fredericksburg area most of their married life. After the children were grown, they moved with Paul's work which took them from eastern Iowa all the way into northern Minnesota. Beth enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, and dancing. Beth is survived by two sons, James (Monica) Edgar of Waterloo, William (Nancy) Edgar of New Hampton; two daughters, Bonnie (Lowell) Granneman of Waverly, Patricia (Dale) Cutsforth of Belle Vista, AR; four sisters, Margaret Mueller of Sumner, Burnita Lienau of Fredericksburg, Donna Schoonover of Fredericksburg, Beverly Perry of Cedar Falls; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Schoonover of Fredericksburg; a daughter-in-law Nancy Edgar of New Hampton; 23 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul in 1985; a brother, Wilbur Schoonover; a son, Robert Edgar; a daughter, Gloria Pierce; a sister, Shirley Rabe; a grandson, Scott Edgar; five brothers-in-law, Rollis Mueller, Doug Keith, Jack Perry, Henry Rabe, Laverne Lienau; and two sons-in-law, James Condon, and Jack Pierce.
