GEORGE BALL Influenza Proves Fatal to a David City Young Woman. The untimely death of Mrs. George Ball on last Sunday, Dec. 1, at 11 p.m., has been the cause of great sorrow and genuine regret by David City people. She was a victim of the prevalent epidemic, influenza-pneumonia, having been ill with the disease twelve days before it proved fatal. Her condition did not become critical until a day or two before she passed on. Those left to mourn the loss of this young woman are her husband, a baby daughter, Elizabeth Aldean, 11 months old, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Daniels, and four half-sisters and three half-brothers. The half-sisters are Mrs. Max Elias of Columbus, Mrs. C. C. Geiger of Ulysses, Mrs. B. J. Brochtrup of David City, and Mrs. J. A. Vanderheiden of Brainard. The half-brothers are Peter Litjen, of O'Neill, Raymond Litjen of David City, and John Litjen, who is in France. Mrs. Ball was in her 26th year. She was born August 7, 1893, in Center township. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Daniels. When her parents came to David City a few years ago she came with them, attended the public schools here and was graduated from the high school in 1912. She clerked in R. A. Bennett's store for a couple of years after finishing her school. On January 9, 1917, she was united in marriage to George Ball, one of her classmates at school. Their baby daughter was born to them on Jan. 8, 1918. They lived in David City after their marriage until last spring when they moved to one of the Ball farms a few miles west of David City. It was at her home that Mrs. Ball was taken sick and passed away. Mrs. Ball had an unusually large number of friends. She was popular and well liked in her girlhood, in young womanhood and in her motherhood. She was a lover of her home and family, and her happiness had been complete in these things. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church in David City. Short service, conducted by Rev. Father Boll, was held at the grave in the Catholic cemetery Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. The pallbearers were Leo Brochtrup, C. R. Camp, Charles Delaney, J. C. Duncan, Herman Ohlsen and George Quade. All of Mrs. Ball's relatives with the exception of John Litjen were in attendance at the funeral. _______ CARD OF THANKS - Friends and neighbors were so kind and thoughtful during our time of bereavement and sorrow that we wish to express our thanks to them in this manner. GEORGE BALL The Banner has been called upon of late to write the obituary of several of our citizens, each of which have caused us to wipe the tears from our eyes more than once, but perhaps none of them have caused the real heartache more than that of Mrs. George Ball, a young wife and mother who has answered the last call. Elizabeth Delellus Daniels was born in Center Township, Butler County, Nebraska, August 9, 1893. When fifteen years of age, she moved with her parents to David City, where she attended the public schools, graduating from them with the class of 1912. On January 9, 1917, she was united in marriage to Mr. George W. Ball, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Mac Ball of this city. They moved to a farm belonging to Mr. Ball's father just west of town, where they had just started life together. A short time ago Mrs. Ball was taken ill with the prevailing influenza, which speedily turned into pneumonia, and from which she died at her home two miles west of town, December 1st, 1918. On account of the quarantine on for influenza, there was no public funeral, but the services were from the home on Wednesday forenoon, and the body laid away in the Catholic cemetery, of which church she was a devoted member all her life. Besides her husband she leaves a little daughter Elizabeth Aldeane, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Daniels of David City, four half sisters and three half brothers. As a girl, Elizabeth Daniels was one of the sweetest characters we ever knew. She was an especial favorite among the young people with whom she associated. To know her was to love her. As a woman, she developed these traits of character more fully and was always spoken of in the highest of terms. To her husband she was a true helpmate and an ideal mother to the little one who had come to bless their home. This taking away of this young wife and mother has left a darkened home. It has made a wound so deep that only time can ever heal but one that the scar will always remain. The Banner extends its sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones in their sorrow at the loss of this lovely woman.
