He Passed Away Saturday - Funeral Was Held Monday. After a few years of illness with paralysis, about two years of which he was bedfast, Herman Daniels was relieved of his sufferings on last Saturday, Feb. 8, when death came to him at 2:15 a.m. He passed away at his home in North David City. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock in St. Mary's Catholic church in David City, Rev. Father Boll giving Requiem High Mass. The singing was by St. Mary's school choir. Theodore Brochtrup, Herman Ficke, George Hilger, Frank Hull, John Lanspa and Peter Meysenburg were pallbearers. Burial was in the David City Catholic cemetery. Mr. Daniels was in his 70th year. He was born December 2, 1849, in Crefeld, Rhine Province, Germany. He came to the United States after he had grown to manhood and for a few years lived in Wisconsin. He came to Butler county, Nebraska, about 35 years ago and took up residence on land in Center township. Some ten years ago he moved to David City. Surviving him is his wife, who was before her marriage to Mr. Daniels Mrs. Wilhelmina Litjen. His only child, Mrs. Elizabeth Daniels Ball, passed away in December, 1918. He leaves seven step-children, Mrs. Max Elias of Columbus, Mrs. C. G. Geiger of Ulysses, Mrs. J. A. Vanderheiden of Brainard, Mrs. B. J. Brochtrup of David City, Peter Litjen of Chambers, John Litjen, who is in France, and Raymond Litjen of David City. All were present at the funeral except Peter and John Litjen. Mr. Daniels also leaves two brothers, who live in Germany. Mr. Daniels was a member of the Catholic church, a sincere believer and follower of that faith.
