Fitz The citizens of Churdan and vicinity was made to mourn Friday afternoon, when the word was passed around that Grandma Fitz had died at her home in this city about 1:30 p.m. Elizabeth Evans, was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, December 23, 1834, and died on Friday, August 11, 1905, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 19 days. She was of German and Welch descent, but her limit ancestry in America dated back of the Revolutionary period. She was married to James M. Fitz, March 10, 1857, and to this union eleven children were born, all of whom still survive her, and ten of them were with her much of the time during her last illness which was of but eight days duration. The cause of death we understand was appendicitis and pneumonia. Mrs. Fitz united with the Baptist church when a maiden and has continued through the years of her life to cherish the religion of the loving God as taught by the Baptist rule of faith. She died as she had lived a consecrated Christian, Mrs. Fitz with her husband was one of the pioneer settlers of Greene county, coming here when only two other families were in this neighborhood, and resided here until their death. She was preceded to the eternal home by her husband, August 25, 1903. For the past two years Mrs. Fitz has spent much of her time with her children, at different points in Iowa and Minnesota. Mrs. Fitz suffered a great deal during her short illness, but did not complain, and was ready to meet her God. Her death, while it had been expected for several days, came as a great shock to the relatives and host of friends. Ten children and their families were present at the funeral. The husband and wife were the first of this large family to pass from this world to the reward above. Everyone was a friend of Mrs. Fitz. She was a good neighbor and always had a kind word or her friends. Another good woman has gone to her reward after a faithful life on earth, and one more home has been made desolate. The children are sad and heartbroken, but they can take consolation in the fact that mother has gone home to Heaven, where there will be oumore [sic] cares or sorrow. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday morning, August 13th, conducted by her recent pastor, Rev. A. F. Culver, at 10:00 o'clock a.m. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to the beautiful Churdan cemetery, where they were laid to rest to await the resurrection day. THE REPORTER joins with the host of friends in extending sincere sympathy to the heartbroken children during the dark and lonely hours. Fitz was passed around our little city Friday noon. Grandma Fitz was a pioneer resident of our little city, loved and honored by all who knew her. She was an earnest soldier of Jesus Christ and will be sadly missed among her host of friends. She was a great sufferer from pneumonia and had been sick but little more than a week when she died. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday at 10 o'clock a.m. A host of friends mourn with the sad relatives during this hour of trouble.
