Read More	Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Mary Duffy. She married William O'Brien on Nov 10, 1897 in Guthrie Co, IA. They were the parents of 3 sons: Quin, John, and Donald. BAYARD NEWS - Thursday, February 19th, 1942 - Elizabeth Grace Duffy, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Duffy, was born in Magnolia, Rock county, WI on July 21, 1876, and departed this life in Chicago, IL., on Feb. 10, 1942. When she was four years old she moved with her parents and other members of her family to a farm in Greene Co, IA. She received her early education in the country school near her childhood home and later attended school in Jefferson where she prepared herself for school teaching. She taught in the country schools in Greene county until her marriage to W.J. O'Brien on Nov. 10, 1897. They established their home on a farm near Bayard. To this marriage was born three sons, Quin and John of Chicago and Donald of Des Moines. Mr. O'Brien preceded his wife in death some 16 years ago. After the death of her husband, Mrs. O'Brien left the farm and resided in Bayard for five years when she and her son, Donald, moved to Yale where they engaged in the grocery business. She left Yale for Chicago in 1935, and since that time had made her home with her son, Quin. Through her dark days of pain the clouds were made, lighter by the many evidences of friendship advanced by the friends back home. She appreciated intensely the many messages of encouragement she so often received from them, and expressed the hope she might soon be well enough to acknowledge each message personally, as she lived very close to her friends in spirit. She was intellectual and competent, and her pleasing manner greatly endeared her to her associates, and made working with her a pleasure. Her devoted family left nothing undone to ease her suffering and keep her with them, but her Creator knowing her work was done, called her to Him. "As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so a well-used life brings happy death." Surviving are her three sons, a granddaughter, a sister and three brothers and numerous other relatives. Funeral services were conducted at St. Patrick's Church by Rev. Father Kelliher on Thursday morning, Feb. 12, at 10 o'clock, and she rests in Willow Cemetery. Pallbearers were: John McDonald, Wm. Murrane, John Caraher, Frank Regan, James Corbett and James Murrane. C.A. Peters in charge.
