Mid-summer traffic on all of the roads leading to and from Lima jammed the highways with automobiles and scores of minor accidents in which many persons narrowly missed injury or possible death were reported. GIRL IS KILLED The most distressing tragedy of the day was that which resulted in the death of Betty Helen Lehner, 19, daughter of Mrs. Theresa Lehner, 205 Nixon-av, who died while enroute to this city in an ambulance shortly after midnight Monday from injuries she received when an automobile in which she and three companions were riding went into a ditch on the Lakeview-Wapakoneta-rd, three miles north of Lakeview a half hour before. Carl Weger, 23, Delphos, is in St. Rita's hospital suffering from a broken leg and severe cuts and bruises as the result of the accident. Walter Weger, 21, Delphos, brother of Carl and driver of the car and Eleanor Sullivan, 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Sullivan, 435 Kenilworth-av were uninjured. The party was enroute to Lima after a day's outing at Russells Point when the accident occurred. According to information, a Buick roadster attempted to pass the Weger car and in so doing crowded it off the road into the ditch. The machine struck a telephone pole, throwing Miss Lehner and Carl Weger out of the rear seat. STRIKES PAVEMENT The girl struck the pavement, suffering a fractured skull, several broken ribs and a fractured log. Weger was thrown along the running board of the car and sustained a broken leg and severe cuts and bruises. Miss Lehner was removed to the office of Dr. Faulder in Wapakoneta, who ordered her rushed to a Lima hospital. She died in an ambulance at Cridersville without regaining consciousness. Her body was removed to the Cantwell funeral home. The automobile which was responsible for the accident did not stop and Weger was unable to obtain the license number. Miss Lehner was graduated from St. Johns High school in the class of 1923 and was employed at the City Loan Co., W. Market-st. Besides her mother, she is survived by three brothers, Tony and John, at home; Joe, 775 Broadway-av and three sisters, Mrs. J. F. Langan, N. Cole-st; Mrs. George Garrison, 308 S. West-st and Mary Lehner, residing at home. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Johns Catholic church at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. L. Plumans will officiate. Interment will be in Gethsemane.
