The lady passed away Wednesday morning, January 3,1917, and funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Adams County First Baptist Church, following a short service at the home at 12:30. A friend has handed us the following obituary of Mrs Snyder, which will be of interest to the many friends of the pioneer lady. Elizabeth Homan, the eldest child of Louis and Temperance Homan, was born near Farmer City, Illinois, May 20, 1839. Of her father's family she is survived by three brothers and one sister. The brothers are J W Homan of Prescott, Iowa; John L of Washington township; J A of Massena. The surviving sister is Mrs Louisa Lawence, of Carl township. Elizabeth Homan was married to Sylvester Snyder January 20,1858, in Washington township, Adams County, Iowa. The husband departed this life September 16,1892. The children of the family were Frank W Snyder, Chadron, Nebraska; Lane Snyder, Prescott, Iowa; Mrs Cora V Mooers, Lenox, Iowa; Grant W Snyder, who died February 21, 1903; Mrs Avennelle Davis, who died October 20,1914; Mrs Rosella Gillet, Corning; Mrs Ada Sheldon, Alamosa, California; Mrs Maurice Stoeser, who died May 24,1900; Mrs Minerva Leght, who died May 9,1914; Mrs Ethel Parrish, Bridgewater, Iowa; Mrs Irene Mostoller. Dawson, Minnesota; Mrs Lola Miner, of Carl township and three children who died in infancy. Mrs Snyder was converted at the age of 18 years and later united with the Baptist denomination. She was the last of the charter members of the Adams County First Baptist Church, which was organized in 1858. Mrs Snyder was the mother of a large family of children and she is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was a woman of wonderful vitality and her illness was of long duration. During the past four months she had been confined to her bed, but the end came in peace. Mrs. Snyder passed away at about 7:20 o'clock Wednesday morning, January 3,1917. In the passing of this good lady Adams County has lost another pioneer. With her parents she came to Adams County in the very early days of settlement, when the pioneers knew many hardships. From Illinois they came to Adams County in the fall of 1856. Few of those pioneer men and woman are with us today. Of the early settlers many have proven their worth as strong characters laying the foundation of citizenship and Christian living. Mrs Snyder was known for her great hospitality, her benevolence, and most of all her Christian faith. Her days work has ended, passed are her sufferings, but today and for many years to come she will be remembered for what she was, what she has done and for the sweetness of a noble life.
