She had been in usual good health, attending to her household duties, and caring for her husband who was quite ill, until Saturday and it seem incredulous that in so short a time her condition had become serious. She first took a severe cold and it soon developed in paralysis and she rapidly sank away until Saturday, Jan 5th she cuccumed to that fell destroyer. Elizabeth House was born in Sussex County NJ Dec 9 1827. She was married to James Carpenter, Jan 15 1848 and resided in Penn unitl 1855 when they moved to Iowa settling in Colesburg Delaware county where they lived fifteen years, when they came to Fayette county, improving a farm in Scott township, where they lived until the death of Mr Carpenter which occurred Nov 27 1881. Unto them were born seven children, two of which have proceeded their mother to that better home. On December 1 1883 she was united in marriage with Lewis James and soon after settled in Brush Creek now Arlington, where she has lived in an elegant home, enjoying the comforts of life, liberly provided by her husband. Mr James is somewhat better but unable to leave the house, so the funeral took place from the family residence and was conducted by Rev Mattox, pastor of the Christian church. The interment was at the Taylorville cemetery. She was a loving wife and mother and her absence will be sorely felt by her husband and children and they feel that the vacant place can be filled by no other. The husband and family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
