Description	:	"One of the earliest settlers of Calhoun County departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Cole of this city, on Saturday, September 2, after a long and useful life of nearly 100 years; being at the time of her death, 98 years, 10 months and 28 days of age. She was born at Trenton, New Jersey on October 4, 1823 and at the age of one year, with her parents, moved to Stark County Ohio where on September 14, 1844, she was united in marriage to David Parker, who passed before her on February 11, 1895.... Read More	"One of the earliest settlers of Calhoun County departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Cole of this city, on Saturday, September 2, after a long and useful life of nearly 100 years; being at the time of her death, 98 years, 10 months and 28 days of age. She was born at Trenton, New Jersey on October 4, 1823 and at the age of one year, with her parents, moved to Stark County Ohio where on September 14, 1844, she was united in marriage to David Parker, who passed before her on February 11, 1895. To them 11 children were born, four passing away in infancy. One daughter, Mrs. L.H. Doty died in 1882 and John C. in 1918. Mrs, Parker was lifelong member of the Church of Christ, having united with the church when 20 years of age. In 1846 Mr. & Mrs. Parker moved from Ohio to Brownsville, Cass County, Michigan and from Michigan to Calhoun County Iowa in 1864, making Lake City their permanent home. For the past four years her home has been with her daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Cole. She was kind in disposition and filled with a desire to be helpful to others, though for the past ten years she has been deprived of sight, which incapacitated her and made her less helpful but did not destroy the heart yearning. Her hearing was as good as in youth and the mind seemed not impaired even to the very last moments. She desired to be at rest and longed to fly away to the house of many mansions. Mrs. Parker was tat the head of six generations, having left to mourn her loss five children, Mrs. Rebecca Cole, Darius H. Parker, Lucretia A. Hotchkiss of Lake City, Mrs. Hannah Huber of Celt, Missouri and L.T. Parker of Eagle Grove together with 29 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild. The funeral services were held at 2:30 on Monday afternoon at the Woodlawn Church of Christ with Rev. C.L. McKirn in charge. "Rock of Ages", "Asleep in Jesus" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" were sweetly sung by a trio composed of Mrs. W.E.Mounds, Mrs. Helmer Sandberg and L.D. Hawkins with Mrs. A.M. Short at the organ. The pall bearers were: J.A. Tubbs, H.J. Hansen, J.A. Gregg, J.O Smith, C.D. Goodale and W.L. Gist, old friends of the deceased. -Published September 7, 1922 in the Lake City Graphic
