Description	:	Bessie Jane was the daughter of Simeon Dana and Mary Jane (Hadley) Huckins. Her father died when she was 3 yrs of age and her mother remarried the following year. Bessie grew up in various places residing last prior to her first marriage at age 18 in Sanbornton New Hampshire. Bessie married Milo J. Bessie grew up in various places residing last prior to her first marriage at age 18 in Sanbornton New Hampshire. Bessie married Milo J. Higgins Jr, son of Milo and Elizabeth (Hunt) Higgins, then residing in Sanbornton. He had been born in Coventry or Barton Vermont and was 22 at the time of their marriage. They had a daughter Ida May born 1903 and perhaps two others. Ida was the only one in the census with them. They resided on Higgins Road in Chemung (Meredith/Sanbornton) NH. Bessie and Milo were divorced and she was living with the Ira Smith family in 1910 in New Hampton with her daughter Ida May then age 6. She married Leon Grant Smith, son of Ira and Emma (Nudd) Smith June 10, 1912 in Ashland NH. It was his first marriage and her 2nd. They had one child Melville Allen Smith. Bessie died in New Hampton where she had resided since 1900 following influenza which developed into pneumonia. She was only 29 years of age. Her daughter was age 14 at the time of Bessie's death and then went to live with her father Milo Higgins in Sanbornton. Ida May married James Weir Macaulay of Sanbornton in 1921 and second Phillip C. Goodell in 1932. Bessie was buried Green Grove Cemetery, ED Ward of Lakeport, undertaker, on Sept 29, 1918. Her husband Leon died in 1935 and was buried with her. Her first husband Milo Higgins died in 1957 and was also buried Green Grove. I am related to Bessie through both her parents and through her daughter's first husband.
