DEPRIEST Dead - Victim of Heart Failure Drops Dead At Home While Alone - A Great Shock To People During the past several weeks we have recorded the deaths of so many of our oldest and best citizens that we have begun to wonder who will be next. This week it becomes our sorrowful duty to record the death of Mrs. Elizabeth DEPRIEST, whose death Tuesday caused a veil of gloom to settle over our little city. She had been suffering slightly with neuralgia for a few days but her condition was not considered serious at all until late Thursday afternoon when the report spread over our town that 'Aunt Sook', as she was familiarly known, had been found death in her home. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy DICKERSON occupy part of her residence and she and Mrs. DICKERSON went to town together about ten o'clock in the morning. Mrs. DICKERSON stopped at the hotel and did not return until about 5 o'clock in the afternoon and when she failed to see anything of Mrs. DEPRIEST she opened her door to look for her and found her lying dead on the floor of her bedroom. There was nothing to indicate any struggle and it seemed to be the unanimous opinion that death had resulted from a sudden attack of heart failure. An inquest was held, however, and a verdict of death from natural causes was rendered. It is not known what time of day her death occurred, but as she still had on her walking coat, it is generally supposed that she died shortly after arriving home from town about 10:30 or 11:00 o'clock. The deceased was about 66 years old, had been a resident of our town for probably longer than anyone left living here, and was a very highly respected citizen. She leaves three grown sons by her first husband whose name was E.F. GARDNER. They are Silas Campbell GARDNER, of near Winona; Ira GARDNER of Deerfield, Illinois; and Romeo GARDNER who is somewhere in North Dakota. The funeral will be held this afternoon under auspices of the Eastern Star Lodge of which she had been a long-time and honored member. Two of the sons, Campbell and Romeo are to be present at the funeral, we are informed. Sources for this information: Shannon Herald, Birch Tree, Missouri.
