Mrs. Lott was in her usual good health until about six o’clock Sunday evening previous to her death. She was taken seriously ill suddenly at her home in the Mrs. N. C. Powers residence on East Fifth Street. From this attack she partially rallied and was taken to the home of her daughter Monday afternoon where she died on the date mentioned before. Elizabeth Jane Simpson was born in LaSalle County, Illinois, December 30, 1833. She was united in marriage to J. M. Christopher i the year of 1851 and were among the first settlers in Montgomery County and had lived in this county continuously since that time and in Villisca since 1881. The husbanded deceased in 1870 and she was remarried in June 6, 1871 to H. S. Lott. To them three children were born. Mrs. Lott is survived by her husband and five children. The children are Mark Christopher of Aspen, Colorado; George Christopher of Republic, Missouri; Oran Christopher, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs. Frank Brenton of Villisca, and Mrs. Jennie Leonard of Wake, Iowa. Also two brothers D. H. Simpson of Oneil, Nebraska and Wm. Simpson of Homer, Illinois. and a number of grandchildren and other relatives and friends survive her. Mrs. Lott joined the M. E. church at the age of 17 and was a faithful Christian until her death. She was a noble type of womanhood with ever a pleasant word and a smile for everyone, cheerfully offering and giving assistance where it was needed. She was a kind and loving mother, a faithful wife, and a helpful and sympathetic neighbor. The world is better for her having lived in it. She has gone to her reward. The aged husband will make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Leonard at Wake, Iowa. The funeral was held from the M. E. Church Friday afternoon, December 27. The services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Taylor, pastor. The pall bearers were grandsons of the deceased and were: Ora, Oliver, and Tom Brenton, John Christopher, Guy Ashmore, and James English. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: D. H. Simpson of Oneil, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. N. M. Leonard and two children of Wake, Iowa; Miss Lenore Moony of Chicago, Helen, Clara, and Billy Christopher of Council Bluffs, and John Christopher of Red Oak.
