Elizabeth “Betty” L. Dewald was born on December 20, 1936, in Bowdle, SD, the daughter of Joseph G. and Genevieve (Hoerner) Dewald. Betty received her education in country school and was a graduate of the Bowdle High School in 1954. She continued her education at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. She then moved to Fargo, ND, where she was employed for the Standard Oil Co. She was united in marriage to Marvin Fred Hochstetter on August 25, 1956, at Bowdle, SD. They then moved to Brookings, SD, where Betty was employed for Northwest Public Service. She was then employed at the Sexauer Co for several years. She was later employed with Northwestern National Bank as an insurance officer for the next 20 years. Marvin died on September 3, 1990, in Rapid City, SD. She continued as an insurance agent with First National Bank and the Lathrop Insurance Agency before retiring in 2007. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, the BPW and the Altrusa Club. She was also a member of the SD Insurance Agent Association. Her hobbies included golfing, dancing, bowling with her teammates and taking bowling trips to the National Tournaments. She also enjoyed having coffee and lunch with her dear friends weekly after her retirement. She loved and was so proud of her two grandchildren. She attended all of their sporting events, programs and concerts. They all had Sunday night pizza and game night. Betty is survived by one son, David (Pat) Hochstetter of St. Louis, MO; one daughter, Jackie (Dan) Skordahl of Brookings; her pride and joy two grandchildren, Ashley Miller of Vermillion, SD and Mitchell Miller of Brookings, SD; a special friend of 19 years, Magnus Olson of Brookings, SD; three step-grandchildren, April (Mike) Peterson, of Glendale, AZ, Joy (Grant) McAdaragh of Brookings, SD and Daniel (Liz) Skordahl of Elkton, SD; nine step-great grandchildren; three sisters, Del Sanborn of Ipswich, SD, Lottie Serena of Iron River, MI and Carol (Harlan) Knecht of Aberdeen, SD; three brothers, Edward (Florence) Dewald of Waukesha, WI, Chuck (Judy) Dewald of Tempe, AZ and Jim Dewald of Cudahy, WI.
