Geraldine Clara Dewald, daughter of Genevieve (Hoerner) and Joseph G. Dewald, was born in Bowdle on September 7, 1929. She attended rural school and Bowdle High School, graduating with the class of 1947. She then took a position at the Bowdle State Bank, where she worked for five years. Gerry married Robert W. Senn on July 5, 1952 in Bowdle. In 1954, they moved to Hoven, where they owned and operated the Hoven Review newspaper for 18 years. In June 1973, they sold the business and moved to Aberdeen, where her interest in the printing business continued. In Aberdeen, she was employed at these printing establishments-Dakota Farmer, Hayes Printing, The Comet, and Western Printing. Since February 2003, Gerry lived at the Holy Infant Hospital. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Altar Society. She also was a 54-year continuous member of the Hoven American Legion Auxiliary. Gerry is survived by 2 daughters—Joan (Francis) Minnaert of Omaha, NE and Laurie (Dale) DeRouchey of Hoven; 3 brothers—Edward (Florence) Dewald of Waukesha, WI, Charles (Judy) Dewald of Tempe, AZ, and James Dewald of Cudahy, WI; 5 sisters—Jeanette (Jerry) Gosh of South Milwaukee, WI, Delphina (Carl) Sanborn of Ipswich, SD, Betty Hochstetter of Brookings, SD, Carlotta Serena of Iron River, MI, and Carol (Harlin) Knecht of Aberdeen; a sister-in-law Bernice Dewald of Bowdle; 6 grandchildren--Ryan (Sarah) DeRouchey of Aberdeen, Lynn (Kent) Simon of Clear Lake, SD, Maren (Lance) Lively of Tulsa, OK, Amber (Michael Schwingler) Johnson of Hoven, Brynn Minnaert of Oklahoma City, OK, and Holly DeRouchey of Minneapolis, MN; and 7 great grandchildren—Olivia and Emma DeRouchey, Paige and Braydon Simon, Paiton and Myah Johnson, and Bethney Schwingler. Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Senn, on June 9, 2003; father on March 25, 1985; mother on September 15, 1984; 2 brothers (Edmund and Ralph); and an infant sister (Bernadine). Honorary bearers will be the Holy Infant Hospital Staff. Casketbearers will be Ryan DeRouchey of Aberdeen, Kent Simon of Clear Lake, Lance Lively of Tulsa, OK, Michael Schwingler and Gordon Huber of Hoven, and Rick Knecht of Faulkton, SD. Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
