"Betty" Stoner, 79, of Mount Pleasant, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Park Place Care Center in Mount Pleasant. Born Feb. 27, 1921, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Edward V. and Grace E. Thompson Yocum. She married Harold R. "Bill" Stoner on Aug. 2, 1941, in Nashua. He died May 7, 1981. Mrs. Stoner was a 1939 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She worked for Mount Pleasant News as a proofreader for 27 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a weekly volunteer at the information desk of Henry County Health Center. Survivors include two sons, Ted Stoner of rural Mount Pleasant and Tim Stoner of Mount Pleasant, and one brother Jack E. Yocum of Mount Pleasant. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother. Friends may call from noon to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation. The funeral for Mrs. Stoner will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Kiboko I. Kiboko officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Crossroads Hospice and First United Methodist Church.
