Mrs. Hoffman was called to Iowa several weeks ago on account of illness in the home of her daughter. It was there that she was taken ill. News of her death came as a great shock to her many friends. Elizabeth Lousia Smith was born at Lowden, Cedar County, Iowa, July 9, 1869 and died at Dedham, Iowa, December 22, 1927 at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 13 days. She was married to George Hoffman at Ida Grove, Iowa. This union was blessed with 15 children, all of whom are living, with the exception of one, who died in infancy. Mrs. Hoffmann came with her husband to Nebraska about thirty five years ago and homesteaded. They lived on a farm north of Royal for several years. About six years ago they removed to Creighton. Besides the husband, the children left to mourn are eight boys and six girls; George of La Grange, Mo., Mrs. Mike Bauer of Venus, Nebr., Mrs. Xavier Bauer of Royal, Nebr., Frank, Joe, Mike and John of Creighton, Mrs. Art Berger of O'Neill, Nebr., Mrs. Hans Sass of Center, Mrs. Mike Berger of Dedham, Iowa, Agnes, William, Louis and Carl at home. Other surviving relatives are two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. John Holder of Ida Grove, Iowa, Mrs. Anna Cleaver of Marion, Iowa, August Smith of California and Henry Smith of Marion, Iowa. Mrs. Hoffman was one of our most honored and respected women of this community and was a devoted mother, who took great delight in the company of her family. Through the many trials, which befront a pioneer, she has borne the adversity and came through a winner. The remains were brought here Friday afternoon from Iowa. The funeral was held Saturday morning from the St. Ludger Catholic Church, conducted by Father Windolph. A large crowd of sympathizing friends were present at the last rites. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery.
