Hoffman, World War veteran of Creighton, who was wounded twice and shell shocked, while in service with the expeditionary forces in France, took his own life on last Sunday morning at 9:30 by shooting himself in the head with a shotgun. The act of self destruction took place one half mile south of Gordon at a tourist camp. He, with his family, was enroute to Idaho, where they planned to locate. His tragic death came as a severe shock to his father, relatives and friends. The deceased was born at Hoskins, Nebr. on February 10, 1893 and died on Sunday, February 4, 1934 and at the age of 40 years, 11 months and 24 days. Shortly after his birth, he came to Boyd County, Nebr., where his parents resided on a farm south of Monowi. they then moved to Antelope County in 1905, where Frank spent the greater part of his life, the family living for a number of years on a farm 16 miles south of Creighton, then moving to town. In the spring of 1917 Mr. Hoffman went to Ida Grove, Ia. to work. He was there only a short time, when he was called to serve in the World War, being among the first contingent of soldiers to leave with the overseas forces in France. There he served his county nobly and was in some of the hardest battles, including the Argonne. He was shell shocked and wounded twice and when the Armistice was signed, he was in an army hospital receiving treatment for his wounds. In April 1919 he ws returned to the United States and given an honorable discharge and thereafter came to his home in Creighton. On June 28, 1924 he was united in marriage to Miss Hazel Larson at Sioux City, Ia. This union was blessed with three children, two daughters, Arlene and Adeline and one son, Frankie. Adeline preceded her father in death at the age of six months. The family had always lived in this immediate locality, until about a week ago, when they started for Idaho to make their home. Besides his wife and two children, he leaves to mourn, his father, George Hoffman Sr.; seven brothers, George, Jr. of LaGrange, Mo., Joe of Gordon, Neb., John, Louis, Mike, Carl and Will, all of Creighton and six sisters, Mrs. Mary Bauer of Venus, Mrs. Annie Bauer of Royal, Mrs. Katie Berger of Carroll, Ia. and Mrs. Agnes Tappy, Mrs. Tracy Sess and Mrs. Art Berger of Creighton. His mother passed on Dec. 22, 1929 and one sister died in infancy. Mr. Hoffman was a hard, industrious worker and had an enviable war record. His death is a matter of lamentation to many, who enjoyed his friendship and association. As a token of respect, flags at all business houses flew at half mast during the funeral hour. The body was brought here on Tuesday afternoon and funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday morning in charge of the Creighton Legion Post with Rev. Father Windolph officiating. A large crowd of friends were in attendance at the last rites and the American Legion in charge of the Commander John Goetzinger bestowed full military honors for the departed soldier.
