Description	:	OBIT: Following an operation performed at the Providence hospital in Seattle, Mrs. John G. Olding, one of the oldest pioneers of the Kittitas Valley died early Monday morning. Mrs. Olding was 77 years of age and came to Ellensburg in 1871 and settled on a homestead of 160 acres a few miles from town. Mrs. Olding was 77 years of age and came to Ellensburg in 1871 and settled on a homestead of 160 acres a few miles from town. At this time Ellensburg was a very small place and there were a great many more Indians in this locality than there were white people. Mrs. Olding was born in Nova Scotia on April 29, 1844. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Love and in February 1869, she was married to John Olding at Virginia City, Nev. She crossed the plains in early days and suffered all the hardships which befell a lot of the sturdy pioneers. When they settled on their homestead near Ellensburg their first home was a log house. In those days the roads in this section were few and most of their traveling was done with oxen. Mrs. Olding was one of the pioneer women who spent a greater portion of her life on the frontier and she had a great part in the upbuilding of this locality as did other pioneer men and women. Mrs. Olding is survived by her husband, John G. Olding and six daughters, four of whom, Mrs. J. M. Galvin, Mrs. Henry Michels, Mrs. A. D. Shaw and Mrs. A. M. Hall reside in Ellensburg and Mrs. J. J. McGuire and Mrs. J. A. Tiseck who live at Seattle. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren. Funeral services will be held this forenoon at 10:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. A. D. Shaw.
