Description	:	SPALDING — Elizabeth M. “Liz” Zwiener, 76, of Spalding passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at the Grand Island Lakeview Care and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding, with the Revs. Antony Thekkekara and James Murphy officiating. Elizabeth Mary “Liz” Zwiener was born on Aug. 18, 1941, in Spalding to Albert and Magelene (Woodley) Zwiener. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding. Liz attended rural country school and Spalding Academy in Spalding through the eighth grade. Liz then worked as a cook in the Spalding Academy lunch room, Spalding Head Start, and the Friendship Villa nursing home in Spalding. Later she helped her sister Janet operate a day care facility. Liz lived in Spalding all of her life and was involved in her community in a variety of ways. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Anne’s Altar Society and was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church her entire life. Liz was always a religious person who loved her family and relatives very much. She enjoyed decorating cakes, crocheting and playing bingo. She also enjoyed taking care of children, and was like a grandma to many area children. Liz is survived by two sisters, Janet Zwiener of Spalding and Grace Schimonitz of Elsie; a sister-in-law, Mary Zwiener of Spalding; a niece, Jenny Troxel of Callaway; six nephews, Daniel (Joyce) Zwiener of Norfolk, Scott (Kim) Zwiener of Valparasio, Douglas Schimonitz of Madrid, Bernard (Sara) Schimonitz of Elsie, Edward Schimonitz of Ogallala and David Schimonitz of Paxton; 13 great-nieces and great-nephews, five great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph and Harold Zwiener; a nephew, John Zwiener; a great-nephew, Julian Zwiener; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
