P. Burr, a resident of this community for 56 years, passed away at her home in Lone Tree last Saturday morning after an illness of long duration. She was 66 years, 1 month and 8 days of age. Last spring Mrs. Burr was a victim of influenza, which developed into pleural pneumonia and other complications. She was bedfast from March 23 until her departure. Last Thursday she suffered a paralytic stroke and death soon followed. The long illness which finally caused her death was said to be the only illness of her life. Mrs. Lizzie (Matthiesen) Burr, the oldest child of Wm. and Katherine Matthiesen was born August 15, 1856, in Holstein, Germany, and died in Lone Tree September 23, 1922. When but nine years of age she came to America with her parents, living for a year at Davenport, Iowa, and then moving to the old Matthiesen home, four miles northeast of Lone Tree, where she resided until March 30, 1883, when she was united in marriage to Levi P. Burr. After her marriage she moved to the place known as the Burr farm, two miles northwest of Lone Tree, where she resided for thirty years. She moved to Lone Tree in 1913. Mrs. Burr was the mother of three children, all of whom, with their father , survive, they being as follows: Charles(should be Glenn) and Clarence, who live on farms near Downey, and Glen (should be Charles), who lives on the home place near Lone Tree. Nine grandchildren, as well as two brothers and two sisters also remain. The brothers and sisters are: Wm. Matthiesen and Julia Wiese, Arnolds Park, Iowa: Gus Matthiesen, Lake Park, Iowa; Mrs. Emma Carl, Lone Tree. She was preceded in death by her parents, also by two sisters who died in Germany and two brothers who have passed away since coming to America. Before leaving Germany Mrs. Burr was confirmed in the German Lutheran church. On Oct. 7, 1906, she became affiliated with the Reformed church in Lone Tyree. She was a faithful and devout Christian and always devoted much attention to work in her church and Sunday school. Mrs. Burr was also a member and officer of the Women’s Relief Corps. Mrs. Burr was a kind and loving wife and mother, as well as a true and faithful friend and neighbor. During the months which she was ill she bore her suffering with patience. Her many excellent qualities, so often revealed in her association with relatives, friends and neighbors, will long be remembered by the large circle of acquaintances who mourn her death. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Lone Tree at 2:00 Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. E. D. Lantz, pastor of the local Reformed church. Burial was made in the Lone Tree cemetery. unknown source Lone Tree, Ia., Sept 26 --- Death came Saturday morning to Mrs. L. P. Burr, a well known resident of this community, terminating an illness of several months. On Friday she suffered a partial paralytic stroke. She was 65 years of age, and was one of the best-beloved pioneers of Johnson county. Surviving are her husband and three sons, Charles of Lone Tree, Glenn of Downey, and Clarence of Downey. Mrs. Emma Carl of Lone Tree is a sister. Two brothers who reside in the western part of the state also mourn. Funeral services were held from the Christian church Monday at 2 p.m. Rev Lantz was in charge.
