The couple had lived on a farm six miles west of here in Johnson county on Highway 6 since 1914. Also killed was Franklin Shalley, 19, of Russellville, Ind., driver of the other car involved. Authorities in Indiana reported, according to the Associated Press, that Shalley’s car veered into the path of the Burr auto. It was reported that the Indiana youth, returning from his factory job in Indianapolis, may have dozed at the wheel. Danville is about 18 miles west of Indianapolis on Highway 36. Shelbyville is about 25 miles southeast of Indianapolis. After a visit with their daughter, Mrs. Zelpha Kirk, the Burrs had planned to go to Florida for a winter vacation as they had done for the past several years. They left home Thursday morning. Mr. Burr was prominent in Hereford cattle breeding and also was a large-scale cattle feeder. He was a farmer all his life. He was born near Lone Tree April 30, 1889, a son of Levi and Elizabeth Burr. He was reared in that area and attended the Lone Tree school. Mrs. Burr was born at Lone Tree October 12, 1889, a daughter of Jesse and Julia Holdeman. She attended Lone Tree high school and taught in the rural schools for a year. The couple was married at Lone Tree in February, 1911, and established their home on a farm near Lone Tree, where they lived until moving to the farm near West Liberty. Both were members of the West Liberty Methodist church. Survivors include a son, Lorren Burr, of Route 1, West Liberty; two daughters, Mrs. Kirk, and Mrs. Florence Miska, of Cedar Rapids, and nine grandchildren. Mr. Burr is also survived by two brothers, Clarence and Charles, both of Iowa City. Also surviving Mrs. Burr are three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Case, of Des Moines, Mrs. Bess Bowman, of Moline, Ill., and Mrs. Lucy Kirchner, of Riverside; and five brothers, Kenneth, of Orlando, Fla., Harley, of Letts, Perry, of Iowa City, Leslie, of California, and Vernon, of Moline, Ill. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Funeral services are to be held at the Methodist church here with the Snider funeral home in charge of arrangements. Day and time of services are pending.
