Description	:	Elizabeth A. Braden was born to Joseph and Anna Krause Schropfer on June 18, 1913, on a farm near Ohiowa, Nebraska. She was the youngest of nine children in the family. Elizabeth attended country school, District 73 near Ohiowa through the eighth grade. She spent her girlhood days helping on the family farm. She was the youngest of nine children in the family. Elizabeth attended country school, District 73 near Ohiowa through the eighth grade. She spent her girlhood days helping on the family farm. On June 20, 1933, she was united in marriage to Tom Braden at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milligan. To this union two sons were born, Melvin Joseph and Richard Thomas. She lived her entire life in Fillmore County. Her most active years were spent on the farm. They started life together in the drought and depression years. She had made many clothes from flour and feed sacks. She canned many jars of fruits and vegetables from her large garden, and she baked many loaves of bread which her husband and sons enjoyed along with cookies and pies. She also would make homemade ice-cream when ever possible with ice that could be spared from the ice box. She helped with field work, picking ear corn by hand, doing the milking and taking care of the chickens that was one of her special interest. The Kitchen Klatter radio show was one of her favorite things to listen to as she always had a pencil in hand to take down another recipe. Her farm work worked stopped when they purchased a home in Geneva and moved to town in 1986. She continued her cleaning jobs until her health failed. Elizabeth was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Tom were able to enjoy several vacation trips together. Elizabeth passed away October 13, 1997, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom; three brothers, William, Gus and Jim Schropfer; five sisters, Mrs. August "Rosie" Fisbeck, Mrs. William "Bessie" Fisbeck, Mrs. Fred "Minnie" Baloun, Mrs. Harry "Tillie" Mussman, Mrs. Herman "Lydia" Matthies; daughter-in-law Mrs. Richard "Louisa" Braden and great-grandson, Christofer Kamler. She is survived by her two sons Melvin and wife Claudia Braden of York and Richard Braden of Grafton; 6 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Geneva on Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997, with Father Thaddeus Bryl officiating. Carol Prater accompanied the St. Joseph's Women's Choir. Casket bearers were Bob Braden, Jery Braden, Tom Kamler, Marshall Cope, Rich Keefer, Jim Keefer, Earl Campbell, Ron Ash and Steve Neville.
