Description	:	ELIZABETH STALLARD MCKINLEY COLFIX Elizabeth Stallard was born to Benjamin T. Stallard and Mary Ann Wookey in Hinton Blewett, Somerset, England on 26 August 1834. Elizabeth came with her parents, brother, & sisters from England on 1 Nov 1849 to Penfield, Monroe Co, NY on the "Bark Oregon" ship, arriving 1 August 1847. The family lived in Penfield, NY and on 15 Feb 1855 Elizabeth married William McKinley by Rev. D. L. Rollin, a Baptist minister. Read More	ELIZABETH STALLARD MCKINLEY COLFIX Elizabeth Stallard was born to Benjamin T. Stallard and Mary Ann Wookey in Hinton Blewett, Somerset, England on 26 August 1834. Elizabeth came with her parents, brother, & sisters from England on 1 Nov 1849 to Penfield, Monroe Co, NY on the "Bark Oregon" ship, arriving 1 August 1847. The family lived in Penfield, NY and on 15 Feb 1855 Elizabeth married William McKinley by Rev. D. L. Rollin, a Baptist minister. Witnesses at the wedding were Benjamin Howe and Edward Prindle (who later became her step-father). Elizabeth's brother and other sisters had ventured to southern Wisconsin in the early 1860's and she came to visit with her new husband. They decided to go to Neosho Rapids, Lyon Co, Kansas where William McKinley enlisted in the Civil War. William was killed 27 Oct 1864 near Dry Wood Creek in Barton Co, Missouri after being in the field there about 20 days as part of Price's retreat. She received a letter from his commanding officer dated 14 Dec 1864 (didn't know he died for almost 2 months) telling of his death. This was Captain A. J. Miller of Co. F 16th Kansas Volunteers. Elizabeth then went back to NY for his burial and also a young daughter of theirs died while she was there and was buried with her parents in Penfield, NY. Elizabeth was listed on records as being in NY in 1865 yet. She filed for widow's pension from NY on 15 June 1866 for $8 a month and $2 a month for her two sons. She received back pay to the time of his death in 1864. In Aug 1866 she was in Monroe Co, NY asking for an increase in pension for her two boys. By 20 Nov 1866 she was back in Wis. where several siblings lived. She again filed in Marquette, Green Lake, Co, WI for an increase in pension. On 31 March 1867 Elizabeth Stallard McKinley married second to Henry W. Colfix; recorded in Wis marriages in Vol 1 p 17. They married in Marquette, Green Lake Co, Wis by Justice of the Peace Ashley Spencer. Witnesses were G. A. Tracy (married to her sister) and William Staves (married to her sister). On 12 July 1867 now as Mrs. Elizabeth Colfix she filed for guardianship of her two minor sons in Green Lake Co, Wis. She had to file papers saying who delivered her two sons in Neosho Rapids, Kansas. She was living in Humbird, Clark Co, WI in 1870 when she filed for more pension for her sons. Elizabeth & Henry lived in Clark Co, WI buying land in 1875 and then decided to go to South Shore, Codington, SD in 1885 where her sister and Gilbert Tracy had moved. Elizabeth died at her home in South Shore, Codington, SD on 8 Jan 1894 and it was reported in the Wis Leader in Merrillan, WI near where her brother John Stallard and sister Mrs. William Staves lived.
