Description	:	Henry W. Colfix was born to John Colfix and Fanny on 12 April 1828 in Adams, Jefferson, NY. Their name was often misspelled as Colfax but the grave is correct. Henry was married first to Celestia B. Hall (daughter of Tobias Van Buren Hall and Clarissa Cornish Hall but raised by Theodotia Tanner Hall-Tobias' second wife) who was born about 1837 in Annsville, Oneida, New York. Hall (daughter of Tobias Van Buren Hall and Clarissa Cornish Hall but raised by Theodotia Tanner Hall-Tobias' second wife) who was born about 1837 in Annsville, Oneida, New York. Henry, Celestia, and their 1 year old son, Julian Colfix, and Celestia's sister Clarissa Hall were on the 1860 census in the Town of Annsville, Oneida, NY. Henry's first wife Celestia B Hall, died four days (9 April 1863), after the birth of her second child Celestia Fanny (Frances) Colfix. Their son, Julian died and was buried in Arlington Presbyterian Cemetery in Arlington, Columbia, WI and died at 4 yr 5 mo 17 da son of H. W. & C. B. Colfix (on the grave it has death 5 Sept). Julian was born about 1859 in NY. Her parents, the Halls, were living in Arlington, WI listed on the 1860 census so Henry followed then after the death in NY of his wife and that is where their son died. I am not sure when they came to WI but their daughter Celestia Jr was born in NY 5 April 1863. Henry's daughter Celestia was living in Iowa in 1870 and 1880 with her grandparents Tobias and Theodotia Hall (they had moved to Arlington, WI before 1860 from NY as they are on that census with their children and then to IA where they died). I imagine Henry couldn't take care of a baby by himself. Henry came to Wis at least by late 1863 or 1864 (his son died in WI about then) and was in Marquette, Green Lake Co, Wis before 1867. He probably met Elizabeth Stallard McKinley, widow of William McKinley (d 1864 Civil War) in Wis after his wife died. They married in Marquette, Green Lake Co, WI on 31 March 1867 by Justice of the Peace Ashley Spencer recorded in Vol 1 page 17 of Wis marriages. Henry and Elizabeth then moved north to Clark Co, WI near Humbird where they farmed and he bought land in 1875 after her brother and other siblings moved to that area. By 1885 they decided to move to South Shore, SD. She also had a sister, Sarah married to Gilbert Tracy who moved to SD. Henry died at his home in South Shore on 24 Nov 1891. Henry should not be linked to Charles as he was not his birth father, but his step-father.
