Read More	Bettie Susan Blain King November 15,1926-July 6,2015 Bettie Elizabeth S. King, 88, of Gering, passed away on July 6, 2015. Her memorial service will be held July 12th, at the Amphitheater of the Scotts Bluff National Monument. An inurnment will be conducted a the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance. She was born in Oshkosh to Eldridge and Cynthia Blain on November 15th, 1926. After graduating high school in Oshkosh, she attended Chadron State College where she met the love of her life, Virgil King. She enjoyed raising their children, working and engaging in craft projects such as crocheting and knitting while their family moved every few years to follow her husband's teaching career. She said moving was in their blood. In the 1960's they spent three years teaching and working for the Forest Service in Pinedale, Wyo., which was a highlight for both of them. When they moved to Scottsbluff in 1965, she enjoyed square dancing and developing her passion for painting, while Virgil taught at NWCC (now WNCC). Upon retirement in 1986, she and Virgil served three years as volunteer managers of Norwesca Methodist Church Camp south of Chadron. During that time she was very involved with the Methodist Women's Group with whom she sewed jean quilts for many friends and loved ones. Following their time at the camp, Bettie enjoyed working in several museums in Chadron and Glenrock, Wyo. They lived in Sheridan, Wyo., and Torrington, Wyo., before settling again in Gering in 2006. Living in the cottages at Heritage Estates and later in the nursing home there, she developed friendships with the staff and her neighbors that enriched her life to the very end. She was known for her love of puzzles, games, and her extensive cat collection. More than any painting she composed (and there were many), she always felt her children and grandchildren were the greatest masterpieces in her life. She loved teaching them to appreciate beauty and to reach for her high expectations. Always witty and outspoken, her fiery spirit is what makes her so irreplaceable. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Virgil; her parents; her brother, William Blain; 3 half-brothers, Clarence, Howard, and Ellis; and 5 half-sisters, Laverne, Lela, Florence, Hazel and Edna.
