Description	:	Elizabeth W. Cory was born on April 5, 1856 in Hortonville, Wisconsin. Her parents were Mary Ann Thompson and William Cory. Elizabeth was their only child. In the 1860 census, the family is living in Hortonville with an Elizabeth Cory who was 62. This is probably William’s mother. William Cory dies in 1862 and Mary marries a William L. Watson. Calkins on September 15, 1872 in Tusculum, Dickinson County, Iowa. Elizabeth and Marcellus moved around a lot. They lived in Ironwood, Michigan and several places in Jackson and Jones County, They had seven children together. They spent most of their married life in Wyoming and Maquoketa, Iowa. Their children were Hattie (1874), William (1880), Riley (1887), Samuel (1888), and Charles (1892). Two children Clara (1873-1876) and Albert (1883-1883) died as children. Hattie married Charles Smith and had two sons, Earnest (1890) and Mahlon (1892) Smith. Hattie died and Marcellus and Elizabeth brought the boys to Iowa and raised the grandsons with their boys. According to family history, Elizabeth passed in Wisconsin. There is no trace of her in Wisconsin records. She dies after the 1900 census when she is still living with the family and before 1903 when Marcellus remarries. There are two 1900 census records for the family. Elizabeth and the younger children are missing from the second census and it is very probable that she died in 1900. M A. Calkins owned Lot 52 in Block 2 in Center / Green Cemetery in Jones County, Iowa. After much research this is the presumed last resting place of his wife, Elizabeth Cory Calkins.
